Smart Mask using Arduino

Abstract


In pandemic COVID-19, the mask becomes an integral part of our life. It plays the role of personal protective equipment against the virus. According to World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines, the important factor to prevent people from spread of COVID is to wear appropriate mask and maintain social distance. The prolonged use of surgical and N95 masks by people and healthcare professionals during COVID-19 leads to adverse effects such as headaches, skin breakdown, rashes, difficulty in breathing, etc., When the same mask is used for a longer duration, it attracts pollutants, the buildup of virus load and humidity which poses ill health. The proposed smart mask provides a solution for negating the effects of disposable/reusable masks. The sensors fixed in the smart mask detect several parameters like humidity, temperature, and an alarm when the social distance is not maintained appropriately. The smart mask is built with a sensor module that measures the distance, the temperature of a person, oxygen level, humidity inside the mask, oxygen level periodically and gives notification to the user through a buzzer. It also ensures the social distance between the persons with the help of an ultrasonic sensor.
