Collision Avoidance Using Li-Fi Based Inter Vehicle Communication
Abstract
Most countries in the world have an alarming record in number of death/disability due to tremendous number of accidents. Even though road transport in India is very prevalent for various reasons, the rate of road-accidents and fatality in the country is very high. Accidents occur due to the unawareness of the public regarding the same. Researchers have observed that majority of the accidents where solely due to factors involving the behaviour, decision making ability, reflex and vigilance of the driver. It has also been proven that accidents can be avoided if the driver was prompted with a warning message in advance in order to avoid the fatality by opting for an alternate route. The Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) was adopted to mimic the Ad- hoc nature of highly dynamic network [2]. In this network two vehicles can communicate with each other. This project is the design and implementation of a Li-Fi (Light Fidelity) Based Inter Vehicle Communication. The proposed technology, namely Li-Fi, comprises mainly of Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs transmitting data through the optical or visible light spectrum, using it as the wireless medium for signal propagation. This eliminates the need of complex wired/wireless networks, algorithms related and protocols required for data transfer.
