Internet of things is a broad term used to describe how the physical things in real life are connected to each other via the logical network. The data generated by these things is stored on the infrastructure called as the cloud. Cloud computing is rapidly moving towards providing the better cloud services to its end users. Some time-critical applications cannot tolerate the high latency of cloud computing. These circumstances gives rise to new era of computing called as the fog and edge computing. This paper primarily focuses on the applications, challenges and opportunities in the edge computing.
