Coordinating Supply and Demand of Water to Confront Water Security in Mysuru-Nanjangud LPA: A System Dynamics Approach

Vinay M., Dr. Ramu

Abstract

Mysuru-Nanjangud Local Planning Area is one of the Tier-II City in the state of Karnataka. Next to Bangalore, it has a high significance in potential urban development. By the year passes, demographic transitions are increasing with respect to birth rate, death rate, periurban extension, immigration and emigrations within study area. The major challenges to local authority are to meet the requirement in terms of supplying clean and safe water to the
society. Water Budgeting and finding the sources of water is the major task. Current study used system dynamics approach with time step integration to model the population from 2017 to 2030, and to study the current water sources for supply and to quantify the water demand to meet water security. Several optimizations were made by calibrating the data and scenarios were developed to enhance the future sustainability of water resources.
