Computer Aid for Stability Testing Between Parts towards Automatic Assembly Sequence Generation
Abstract
Abstract
Stability is one of the most essential criteria to be ensured during assembly sequence generation (ASG). The stability predicate ensures stable assembly subsets for sub-assembly detection and parallel assembly process. In this paper a novel method to represent assembly stability using four point scales is proposed. Mechanical equilibrium conditions are used to test the partial stability of the parts effectively. Part surface features and contact with attachments are considered to demonstrate the permanent stability of components. The proposed methods have been automated through computer programs in order to extract the data from computer aided design (CAD) models.
