Abstract

A firewall is security-based software that installed a perimeter whose main task is to block or restrict both incoming and outgoing information over a network. Firewalls are used to protect internal networks of government offices, companies and other institutions against potential attackers from the Internet. The Firewalls system operates the security, functionality, assurance of proper operation and performance. In this paper, we study the role of the firewall in cyber security. A firewall acts as a security guard that monitors or policies the outgoing and incoming traffic to the Internet. Firewalls are used to block potential malware, virus and Trajan horse from infecting your network system. Firewalls provide defense against external threats by refusing unauthorised connection to the router from  potential attackers such as hackers.
